چکیده

Input methods for interaction in smartphone-based virtual and mixed reality (VR/MR) are currently based on uncomfortable head tracking controlling a pointer the screen. User fixations fast natural input method VR/MR interaction. Previously, eye mobile VR suffered from low accuracy, long processing time, need hardware add-ons such as anti-reflective lens coating infrared emitters. We present an innovative methodology utilizing only images front-facing (selfie) camera through headset’s lens, without any modifications. Our system first enhances low-contrast, poorly lit by applying pipeline of customised low-level image enhancements suppressing obtrusive reflections. then propose iris region-of-interest detection algorithm that is run once. This increases speed reducing search space devices. iteratively fit geometric model to refine its coordinates. display thin bezel light at top edge screen constant illumination. A confidence metric calculates probability successful detection. Calibration linear gaze mapping between estimated centroid physical pixels results latency, real-time tracking. formal study confirmed our system’s accuracy similar trackers commercial headsets central part field-of-view. In game, gaze-driven user completion time was with head-tracked interaction, consecutive motions. panorama viewer, users could successfully switch panoramas using gaze.

Towards Interaction Around Unmodified Camera-equipped Mobile Devices

Copyright is held by the author/owner(s). Presented at the Cross-Surface ’16 workshop, in conjunction with ACM ISS ’16. November 6, Niagara Falls, Canada. Abstract Around-device interaction promises to extend the input space of mobile and wearable devices beyond the common but restricted touchscreen. So far, most around-device interaction approaches rely on instrumenting the device or the envir...

Eyemotion: Classifying facial expressions in VR using eye-tracking cameras

One of the main challenges of social interaction in virtual reality settings is that head-mounted displays occlude a large portion of the face, blocking facial expressions and thereby restricting social engagement cues among users. Hence, auxiliary means of sensing and conveying these expressions are needed. We present an algorithm to automatically infer expressions by analyzing only a partiall...

GlassHands: Interaction Around Unmodified Mobile Devices Using Reflective Apparel

We present a novel approach for extending the input space around unmodified mobile devices. Using built-in frontfacing cameras of unmodified handheld devices, GlassHands estimates hand poses and gestures through reflections in sunglasses, ski goggles or visors. Thereby, GlassHands creates an enlarged input space, rivaling input reach on large touch displays. We introduce the idea along with its...

Human Computer Interaction Using Eye-tracking Data

The eye-tracking device records users’ eye movements in order to better understand users’ information-seeking behavior. One of our research goals was to investigate the search behavior when participants interact with a healthrelated online database. Another research goal was to explore how participants browse for health information inquiries. The result shows that the health professional partic...
